New Laws Needed to Stop Victoria’s Timber Jobs From Being Destroyed

Dear Premier,

Your Government’s changes to the Code of Practice for Timber Production in 2021 have not stopped the courts from ordering VicForests contractors out of coupes following Green litigation.

Many Contractors and their crews have been out of work for months and many hardwood timber mills are out of logs or running low.

In December last year your Government announced changes to legislation would be introduced in early 2022 to try to stop the injunctions.

However, just days following this announcement, contractors, crews, workers and communities were dealt a further blow with a fresh round of injunctions.

Your urgent action is now critical.

We are calling on your Government to:

• Legislate to stop the injunctions and Green lawfare destroying communities
• Get contractors and crews back to work and wood supply flowing
• Compensate contractors, crews, businesses, sub-contractors and timber workers who have been stood down because of injunctions and lack of supply to mills.
