Dear -mp_first_name- -mp_last_name-,
I am a worker at Kimberly-Clark Australia’s Millicent Mill and I am writing to you to express my concern about my employer’s handling of workers’ compensation claims under its self-insurance licence.
Many of us have experienced, or witnessed our workmates experience, significant challenges in accessing timely and fair support following workplace injuries. These include:
1. Excessive delays in determining liability on claims;
2. Poor communication from the company after being injured;
3. Increased psychological stress and harm caused by prolonged uncertainty and lack of support, which in some cases has worsened the original injury; and
4. A lack of empathy when it comes to installation supports for injured workers which would assist daily living activities at home.
These issues appear to be systemic and are undermining the purpose of the return-to-work scheme, which is meant to support injured workers in their recovery and return to meaningful employment.
We respectfully call on you to initiate an independent review and compliance audit of Kimberly-Clark Australia’s self-insurance practices, with particular focus on:
• Whether statutory timeframes for liability decisions are being met;
• The adequacy and fairness of the company’s claims management systems; and
• The impact of current practices on workers’ psychological health and recovery.
I urge you to take action to ensure Kimberly-Clark’s compliance with the ReturnToWork self insurance requirements.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We trust you will act to protect the rights and wellbeing of injured workers.
Yours sincerely,
